Hi everyone! I’m Kobra Paige, the founder and singer of Canadian band Kobra and the Lotus. Music is the MOST amazing language in the world because it’s universal. It brings unity and allows people to relate to each other. This list is about my identity as a person and about how I’m a human just like everybody else! Please note these are in no particular order and only some of my favourites.

10. MUSE – Undisclosed Desires

I’m a lover not a fighter. I have and always will be a romantic, empathetic, fool for love. If I truly love you, my love cannot be stopped. I will love you harder than you have ever known could be possible and believe in you relentlessly.

9. RADIOHEAD – Creep

When I was growing up, I was picked on by other kids a lot for being a nerd. No matter what, I wouldn’t change who I was. The suffering was better than not being myself. I always thought this song was about me… but now I actually think this song is about everyone. No one fits in because everyone is different. What a beautiful thing.

8. THE SPOONS – Arias and Symphonies

My father was in a Canadian new wave band called ‘The Kids’ that opened for this music group several times while on tour. My parents met while he was still playing in this band. He introduced me to music at a very young age and I couldn’t have pursued this career without the support of both my parents.

7. SKID ROW – Eileen

Oh yes…Sebastian Bach…you made me want to be a rock star. That scream at the end of the song is worth every penny.

6. THE DISTILLERS – I Am A Revenant

This is some of the first music that ever really hit home for me. I saved my money and made my mom fly with me to the other side of Canada so I could see Brody Dalle sing in all her punk rock glory. She was the first bad ass woman I felt like I had ever witnessed.

5. LED ZEPPELIN– Battle of Evermore

Oh it’s just so good. I’ll love led Zeppelin until the end. I feel like my soul is from 1971 just like the song. No one could hide their musicianship back then with recording tricks. You either had it or you didn’t.

4. THE POGUES – Fairytale Of New York

This song holds very nostalgic memories of being a child and growing up in my family. We even lived in Cork, Ireland for a period of time. My family was very close while growing up and it was so heart warming. This will always remind me of all those great memories and the unconditional love.

3. GUNS N’ ROSES – November Rain

I still to this day reference the guitar solo at the end of this song whenever we are in the studio recording a new album. Slash was the master of anthemic melodies. If I hear a song, I don’t just want to sing along with the vocals, I want to be able to sing with the guitars too. Hells. Yea.

2. Devin Townsend – Hyperdrive

All I can say is this just makes me feel good. This song makes me think the future of music has so much to offer. There is so much magic in ourselves and inside the world if we can see beyond the darkness.  Thank you Devin for reminding us there is still light out there.

1. JUDAS PRIEST– Night Crawler

Well… something metal had to make this list! This concert changed my life. I saw Judas Priest when I was 15 and knew I had to do this. I had to figure out how to make a career out of headbanging for the rest of my life.  It blew my mind when I saw it bring people together from all different backgrounds to rock out. All hail the metal queen Halford \M/.
